Rice paper for professional packaging: when to choose sheets or reels

Rice paper for professional packaging: when to choose sheets or reels

In a professional package, rice paper is not chosen only for the color. The shape and size of the product, the number of packages to be prepared, the space available on the counter and the time needed for each cut count.

Sheets and reels therefore respond to different jobs. In the rice paper category you will find both solutions: before ordering, it is advisable to compare them on the products that really package.

In the boutique, the consistency of the presentation counts

The sheets are practical when you prepare packages of recurring sizes: you pick them up, place them on the table and you can repeat the same fold without measuring each time. The reel is more flexible when the height, width or shape of the product changes, because it allows you to cut only the length you need.

Before choosing, do a complete test with box, paper and tape. Mark how much material you use and how long it takes to cut. If you prepare many of the same packages, the speed of the sheets can weigh more than the scrap; if you often work on different sizes, the continuity of the reel can reduce unusable splices and cutouts.

Rice paper sheets

For accessories, cosmetics, small garments and boxes of recurring size, the sheets help to keep the packaging uniform. The finished package must fit into the shopper without crushing the creases: so try the paper on the product already placed in the box, not just on the item.

The 93×63 cm and 25 g/m² rice paper sheets are suitable for large coverings and packages. For smaller packages or when you are looking for a more textural effect, you can also evaluate the handmade Avoha sheets, checking the available color on the card.

For florists and irregular shapes, the coil leaves more freedom

Bouquets, potted plants and floral arrangements change volume from one work to another. In these cases, the reel allows you to adapt the cut to the circumference and height of the composition, avoiding joining several sheets. Before cutting, place the product on the paper and leave the necessary margin for overlapping and closing.

The 1×10 m, 25 g/m² spool is useful when you need more continuity. The 1×5 m, 25 g/m² Silk Paper spool offers a smaller square footage. Both feature a thin paper with tone-on-tone filaments; the practical choice depends largely on the intended consumption and the colors available.

In gift shops also measure cut and quantity

Weft, box, and tape must work together

A gift shop can go from a candle to a vase, from a small box to an irregularly shaped object, on the same day. If the measurements change often, keep the reel on a stable support and define a few recurring cutting lengths. If, on the other hand, most sales fall into two or three sizes, prepare a small supply of sheets already intended for each size in advance.

To estimate your purchase, count how many packs you prepare in a typical week and how much paper each requires. The size of the reel and the number of sheets per pack should be compared to this actual consumption, not just the price of the individual pack.

A reference to Halloween without changing all the packaging

Rice paper already has a visual presence of its own: filaments, ripples and slight transparencies can become the main detail of the package. On a neutral box, a matching ribbon may suffice; on a colored box, it is often more effective to choose a paper that creates contrast without adding too many decorations.

Paper remains a decorative coating and does not replace the box, filling or protectors when the product is fragile. To compare other materials and formats, you can also read the guide to gift wrapping paper for shops.

For Halloween, you don't need to turn every package into a themed package. An orange or brown sheet, a black or havana box and a dark ribbon create a recognizable seasonal reference but still suitable for boutiques, florists and gift shops.

The simplest solution is to use color only as an accent: the paper wraps the product or covers the box, while the rest of the package remains neutral. In this way, any leftover materials can also be reused for autumn compositions, without depending on graphics strictly related to the anniversary.
