Gift boxes and Christmas gifts: what to prepare now in the store

A gift box for a purchase at the counter and a gift with panettone and bottle do not require the same preparation. The first must adapt to the items you sell most often; the second must keep different products in order, even when it is lifted and transported.

Before stocking up for Christmas, pack a few full packs of actual products. These tests are enough to help you choose useful formats, figure out where you need a filler, and order the boxes you'll actually use.

Gift boxes and Christmas gifts: what to prepare now in the store

Separate single gifts from gifts

Start from two groups: single gifts or a few similar items and compositions with products of different shapes. For the former, look at gift boxes in formats suitable for your assortment; for panettone, bottle and other products to be composed together, consider boxes for Christmas gifts.

Don't choose a box just because it looks large in the photo: check the measurements indicated on the card and test the contents in the position where it will be delivered.

Try the box with the gift already wrapped

Measure the product with any wrapping, not just the bare object. Check the width, depth, and interior height; then close the box without compressing the contents. If you prepare several gifts of the same type, write down which measurements really work at the counter.

To reduce the formats without sacrificing versatility, you will find a more detailed method in the guide on how to choose the sizes of the gift boxes.

Gift boxes to compare by shape and assembly

For panettone and bottle, check the overall dimensions together

The box for a gift should be tried with the panettone of the size you will sell and with the actual bottle. Check that both fit without forcing, that they remain in the intended position and that the box closes well. A format suitable only for panettone does not automatically replace one designed for panettone and bottle.

Also test by lifting the complete package: it is the right time to understand if the contents move and if it needs to be better protected.

Fill in the free spaces without hiding the products

Once you've found the size, look at what's going on inside the box: the items should stay tidy, without bumping or tilting. Tissue paper can finish the gift and wrap the most delicate items; filler chips help fill in the gaps in the arrangements. Use as much as you need for the packaging, not so much as to cover the contents.

If the gift is to be shipped, please check the transport packaging separately: the gift box alone is not a guarantee of protection during delivery.

Sort by composition, not just by color

Count how many simple gift boxes and how many gifts you plan to prepare, starting from last year's sales or reservations already collected. Divide the quantities by format and compare them with the pieces provided for each package in the catalog. Keep a few sample boxes assembled: they will help you check orders before replenishing the counter.

Finally, try to insert the finished box into the shopping bag you will use for delivery. In the guide to Christmas shopping bags for shops you will find how to choose the bottom, format and quantity according to the complete package.
