From packaging to T-shirts: a coordinated identity for your store

A shopper accompanies the customer out of the store. A box presents the product when it is opened. A staff T-shirt makes the person who welcomes it recognizable. They are objects with different functions, but they can tell the same business through colors, graphics and consistent choices.

To build this together, it is worth starting with a question: what image do you want the customer to take with them? The answer helps to design the packaging and offers direction even when the identity of the store is transferred to the clothing.

Packaging starts with everyday work

At ChartaRè, the starting point is to understand the business: what products it sells, how it delivers them, what needs it has and what budget it can devote to packaging. The space available to store materials also enters the project.

A boutique that makes garments purchased over the counter will have different needs from a store that mainly prepares orders to be shipped. In the first case, it is necessary to evaluate presentation and transport convenience; in the second, also the packaging necessary for the trip. If the product is purchased as a gift, the opening of the package deserves specific attention.

Imagine, for example, a T-shirt sold by a bookstore for an exhibition. Before choosing the shopper or box, it is necessary to consider the folded garment, any inserts and the purchase combinations envisaged. This information allows you to discuss formats and materials referring to a concrete use.

Shoppers, boxes, cards and ribbons: choose a set

When designing packaging, we consider the relationship between its elements. Shopping bags, boxes, papers, ribbons and labels can share a colour, a graphic sign or a particular brand setting, leaving each product the space it needs to perform its function.

A shopping bag can give visibility to the name of the store. The inner paper can accompany the product with a coordinated color. A label can close the package and make the brand recognizable even on a small format.

The balance must be evaluated on the whole: how much space does the logo occupy? What elements can be seen at the time of delivery? Which ones appear only at the opening? It is on these questions that a personalized project is built.

When identity passes over clothing

The same attention is needed when preparing T-shirts for staff or garments to offer to customers. Before transferring the logo to the fabric, it is necessary to clarify the use of clothing.

For the staff, recognizability during work counts, also considering any aprons or other garments that could cover the customization. For a garment to be sold, on the other hand, there may be more space for graphics related to the activity, a collection or an event.

The packaging design offers a visual reference, while the creation of the garment requires the point of view of those involved in textile customization. On this step we host the contribution of Burger Print.

Burger Print's point of view: evaluating garment, graphics and workmanship

When evaluating a T-shirt customization project, we start with the garment, the actual size of the design and the position required. The file used for the packaging gives us a reference, but it must be checked on the fabric. A logo with symbol, name and payoff can work complete on a shopping bag; reduced for a small print on the chest, the payoff can become illegible. In that case, we evaluate a variant with symbol and name, keeping the brand recognizable.

The same graphics on the chest or back occupy a different space and change proportions between T-shirt models. We then check the design to the size provided on the chosen garment. The workmanship is evaluated together with the actual graphics and quantities: details, shades and number of subjects affect the production project.

Before production, we submit a graphic draft to the customer to check the version of the design, the size and the position. This check allows the composition to be approved; the physical rendering of fabric and customization is instead evaluated on a real garment. Even a color common to paper and fabric can appear different on the two materials.

The final check is done together

The final check is done together

Before confirming supplies, place packaging and clothing proposals side by side. Check that the business name, symbol, and logo versions are consistent. Then evaluate the legibility and position of the elements on each object.

If the artwork changes during the project, share the update with both vendors. Keeping approved versions also allows you to have a clear reference for reorders and new applications.

A project that also considers stocks and deliveries

Packaging must work over time, taking into account the quantities needed, the space occupied and the way in which reorders are organized.

With ChartaRè Packaging Lab we start by listening to the business and develop a free study and design, followed by the quote and supply of the chosen products. When the customer has little space, we can agree on the custody of stocks and organize deliveries in the quantities and at the times required, without additional costs for the agreed service.

This allows you to design an ensemble that reflects the store and is practical to use every day, from the first package to subsequent reorders.

Do you want to develop the packaging of your business? Tell us what products you sell, how you deliver them and what needs you have: we will build a personalized proposal together.
